Recently I read in Better Homes and Gardens that you can remove rust stains from porcelain with toothpaste and baking soda. My porcelain bathtub had several rust spots from a shaving can that had rusted. I tried may different ways to remove the rust spots but nothing has removed them. So I decided that I would try this method and video my progress.
Three Easy Steps!!!
Step 1: Apply a layer of toothpaste to the rust spots and let it set for 10-15 minutes
Step 2: Sprinkle toothpaste with baking soda after letting it sit
Step 3: Rub the toothpaste and baking soda mixture with a soft cloth until the stain in removed
The procedure seemed easy enough with only three basic steps. I used an old washcloth and rubbed the stain with a dry cloth and then when it was wet. I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed.
The verdict……..IT DIDN’T WORK FOR ME!!!!
I’m not sure why it didn’t work. Maybe because the rust stains had been on there for a very long time or maybe I didn’t scrub them long enough. I really don’t know why it didn’t work. But at least now I know that the next time I read that baking soda and toothpaste will remove rust stains, it doesn’t work for me.
