Today was my oldest daughter’s 11th birthday. Usually, I make some sort of character cake but she is getting to the age where she feels too old for character cakes but doesn’t want an adult cake. I decided that I would make this very easy rose swirl cake. I found similar cakes on Pinterest but because I did not have enough frosting to put rose swirls on the top, I just left it empty for candles or words.
I applied a crumb coat to the entire cake before piping the rose swirls. This also used a double batch of buttercream frosting. You can use any swirl decorator’s tip, but I used a large Wilton 1M. From the start of me making the frosting to finishing the cake, took exactly one hour. That’s pretty quick in my book! To make the swirls, just start on one side of the cake, pointing the tip in the middle and then making circles around the center. Any large areas not covered by a rose swirl can be filled in with a simple shell swirl.
I personally LOVE how this cake looked when it was finished. It would work great for a birthday, bridal shower, baby shower or any girly event. Just change the color, add a cute figurine to the top and Voila! a beautiful cake that looks like you spent hours making it!
