Day 1 Expenses:
– $4.80 for dust masks
– $351.00 for 8 cubic foot dumpster
Our house was built in 1901, so it should have come as no surpise to have unexpected issues pop up during the tear down of the “breakfast nook”.  The two “big” things today was the encounter of very old, wood shavings in the outside wall that was being used for insulation.  As the old plaster wall was getting ripped out, this “insulation” just started pouring out onto the floor. We ended up using snow shovels to get rid of the stuff into trash bags.
The second issues was that the old, possibly orginal pipes to the 2nd floor bathroom were leaking, corroded and made of iron. That led to the need to remove them and replace them with new copper. Tonight, we currently do not have a functional upstairs bathroom, but we do have a functional kitchen sink and downstairs bathroom with shower. It’s mighty cold downstairs right now with everything ripped up, and I can only imagine how cold the toilet seat is going to be by morning.
Here are some construction pictures from today, as well as some “before” pictures. Enjoy!
