Today I started more of my garden plants. I planted four different varieties of pepper plants. In past years, I didn’t label the containers and by the time I went to plant them in the spring, I forgot what plants were what.
So, this year I decided that I was going to come up with some way to keep my plants more organized. I didn’t want to spend any money on this so I searched my house for something that would work. It needed to be plastic so it wouldn’t rot and shrink away. I checked out our recycle bin and found a plastic gallon milk jug.
I cut off the spout first, and then cut strips from the top to the bottom of the jug with each strip being about 1/2″ wide. Then I cut the strips across the bottom to make 8″ strips. I cut those strips in half. With a permanent marker, I wrote the variety on the strip and placed it in the seed containers.
Voila! Instant plant markers and it didn’t cost anything. Try it! The whole project took less than five minutes.
good use of recyclables.
Excellent, I have used cut up old mini blinds for markers but heard they may contain lead, so the milk jugs would be much safer.
Thank you for a great tip
I’m new to your blog, plan on visiting more and checking out your back pages : )

Thank you what t a GREAT Idea!!
What a good idea! I’ve used strips cut from the sides of yogurt cups in the past but I’ve found them to be too curved. The milk jugs wouldn’t be, I’ll use them this year – thanks!
What a clever idea- I love it! Some of my pots are terra cotta colored, so that’s no problem, but I’ve been wondering what I should do for the black ones without costing anything.

Great way to repurpose!
Found you on the barn hop. After years of masking tape wash away from my seedling trays, I’ve been looking for a new cost-free method as well. Great idea!
