In past years, I have had problems with cutworms attacking my tender pepper plants. I then discovered a great way to prevent their damage. Make simple paper collars to put around the base of the pepper plant when you first transplant them.
Start with 1″ wide strips of newspaper, cut in to 6″ lengths.
When you are ready to transplant your peppers, gently wrap the paper around the very base of the stem. Then place the dirt right up around the paper.
Cutworms are definitely more of an issue with tiny seedlings like mine rather than the larger plants that you can purchase at local greenhouses. However, this works like a charm for protecting my plants. You can also do this with your tomato plants.
