This hoagie roll recipe is made easier by making the dough in a stand mixer and then shaping them by hand. If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can always make these the “old-fashioned” way by kneading them by hand.
EASY Hoagie Rolls made in a STAND-MIXER
This easy dough is made in a stand-mixer and then shaped by hand.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp active or instant dry yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 cups warm and friendly water
- 3 Tbsp melted butter
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 6-7 cups flour
Instructions
-
Place all of the ingredients except the flour in a stand-mixer
-
Add 4-5 cups of flour to the bowl. Using the PADDLE attachment, turn mixer on low and let the dough come together. THEN turn on med-high speed and allow dough to mix and develop the gluten. You'll know it's done with all of the dough pulls away from the bowl and sticks to the paddle, about 10 minutes
-
Remove dough from paddle and attach dough hook. Add flour 1 cup at a time until dough is soft, but not sticky
-
Remove dough and place in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and allow to rise approximately 1 hour OR until doubled
-
Remove dough from bowl after 1st rise, and divide until 16 equal pieces
-
Shape into hoagie rolls or round hamburger buns and place on greased baking sheet
-
Cover and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes
-
With a sharp knife, make slits (diagonal or length wise) across the top of the rolls
-
If desired, you may brush the rolls with a egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 Tbsp water) and sprinkled with poppy seeds or sesame seeds.
-
Bake in pre-heated 400°F oven for 20-30 minutes until golden brown
