Have you ever tried the Red Robin Whiskey River BBQ sandwich, smothered with cheese, onions, french friend onion rings and more? Oh, it tastes so good, but it is so bad for you and full of unhealthy sort of ingredients. So tonight I came up with my own version of the Whiskey River BBQ sandwich. It comes out to about 450 calories verses the original Whiskey River BBQ sandwich which weighs in around 1100 calories.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it. This takes about 30 minutes to make from start to finish.
Healthy Version of the Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Sandwich
2 chicken breasts, cut into bite size pieces
1 small green bell pepper
1 small onion, sliced into rings
3 cloves of garlic, smashed and finely chopped
1 tbsp. unsalted butter
2 tbsp. steak sauce
1-2 tbsp. ketchup
1/4 cup shredded cheese, any variety
2 sandwich rolls
In skillet, add butter, pepper, onion and garlic. Cook over medium heat until onions start to become soft. Add chicken pieces and cook until chicken is cooked through and the onion and peppers are tender. Add steak sauce and ketchup. Mix and heat through until bubbly. Split sandwich rolls in half and place on small baking sheet. Top each roll with about half of the chicken mixture and sprinkle with cheese. Place under broiler and broil until cheese begins to bubble and brown, about 5 minutes. Serve immediately. Makes 2 sandwiches
Very creative!! I’ve never heard of the Wiskey River BBQ Sandwhich but it does look inviting! 🙂
