This past week, I celebrated my great-aunt’s 96th birthday. She lives in assisted living and really has very little need for much. Puzzled by not knowing what to do to show my remembrance of her birthday, I searched the web for some ideas. Originally, I was going to just make a nice card and have everyone sign it. But then I stumbled across this website. It was a very easy tutorial on how to make this adorable little purse box for a small gift. I LOVED the idea! I had one hour to make this before I had to leave the house and it seemed easy enough.
This is how it came out.
The original design called for sticky back Velcro but I didn’t have any of that. I just used a button and simply sewed it on to the paper. It worked like a charm and then used just a small piece of narrow ribbon to attach to the button to keep the lid from popping up. I ended up filling it with some nice, wrapped chocolates. It was a thoughtful and inexpensive gift that was perfect for her.
If you would like to try making one of these purses yourself, I highly recommend this easy, visual how-to blog: Explosion Box Purse
