Today, I was looking through some of my older pictures and videos from when my kids where small when I found this birthday cake that I had made for my oldest son’s 5th birthday. My son LOVED Thomas The Tank Engine and he wanted a Thomas The Tank Engine cake.
Basically, it was two 8″ round cakes with one of the rounds cut in half and then stacked on top of each other. I used a basic butter cream for the frosting and just tinted it the different colors. I had to add some corn syrup to make the black color shiny and M&M’s for around the tunnel entrance and the base of the cake. I used the leaf tip for the tree and greenery and a plain piping tip for the writing. The rest was just spread with a regular cake decorating spatula.
I had so much fun creating this cake. It is by far one of my best and most favorite cakes that I have made for my kids. I hope this inspires you to get those creative juices flowing for your next birthday cake.
