My two year old daughter has been eagerly looking forward to her third birthday. When I asked he what kind of cake she would like, she emphatically said that she wanted a butterfly cake. I had already made a shaped butterfly cake for my daughters 9th birthday, so I was looking for something new and different to try.
I found this cake on Pinterest and just fell in love with the bright and vibrant colors! The down size was that it appeared that I would need to use fondant to make the butterflies and flowers. I have used fondant once and I just don’t feel that I’m experienced enough to just quickly throw and cake like this together.
Then I went to AC Moore’s and browsed their Wilton Cake Decorating section. I found the PERFECT solution to my fondant and butterfly problem. I found a butterfly chocolate mold.
I bought white chocolate melting chips and just colored them the same colors that I was going to use for the rest of the cake. I made a total of 8 chocolate butterflies. I made four and my 11 year old made the other four.
Everything else was pretty straight forward and it didn’t take me all that long to decorate the cake.
